How Connection Requests Work on Connexa
Everything you need to know about sending connection requests on Connexa - from sparks and credits to what happens when someone accepts.
What Is a Connection Request?
Think of a connection request as a proper introduction. On most apps, you match with someone and then sit there staring at a blank message box wondering what to say. Half the time, nobody says anything at all.
Connexa does it differently. When you find someone you'd like to meet, you send them a connection request with a personal message. It's one shot, one message, and it costs one spark. That means you've put some thought into it, and the person receiving it knows that.
What Are Sparks?
Sparks are the credits you use to send connection requests. One spark equals one request.
You get one free spark when your profile is approved, so you can try the platform without paying anything. After that, you can buy more sparks in packs.
The spark system exists for a good reason. When sending a message costs something, people actually think about what they're writing. Recipients get fewer messages, but the ones they do get are worth reading. It's better for everyone.
Sending a Connection Request Step by Step
Here's what happens when you send a request:
1. Find someone you'd like to meet. Browse profiles on the directory. Take your time. Read their bio, check their photos, see if you share any interests.
2. Write a personal message. Click the send button on their profile and write something genuine. Reference something from their profile. Ask a question. Be yourself. Generic messages stick out, and not in a good way.
3. Your spark goes on hold. When you hit send, one spark is put on hold. It's not spent yet.
4. They get notified. The person receives a notification that someone sent them a connection request. They can see your message, your profile photo, and your name.
5. They decide. They can accept the request or pass on it. There's no rush and no pressure.
What Happens When They Accept
This is the good bit.
When someone accepts your connection request, you both get each other's contact details. That means a real phone number and email address. No in-app chat. No back-and-forth within the platform. You take it to the real world straight away.
Your spark is consumed at this point since the connection was made.
You'll get a notification by email (and text if you have SMS notifications on) with their contact details. They'll get yours too.
What If They Don't Accept?
If someone doesn't accept your request, it just stays as sent from your perspective. You won't know if they've seen it and passed or just haven't checked yet. We designed it this way deliberately because nobody needs to see the word "rejected" on their screen.
Can I Cancel a Request?
Yes. If you change your mind after sending a request, you can cancel it and your spark is refunded. Just go to your messages and hit cancel.
One thing to note: if you cancel a request to someone, you won't be able to send them another one for 30 days. This prevents people from spamming the same person with repeated requests.
Can I Edit My Message?
Made a typo? Want to add something? You can edit your message once within 30 minutes of sending it. After that, the message is locked in. You'll see a countdown timer next to the edit button so you know how much time you have.
Tips for Writing a Great Connection Request
Since your message is the first thing someone sees from you, it's worth getting right.
Read their profile first. Seriously. People can tell when you haven't. Mention something specific that caught your attention.
Ask a question. It gives them something easy to respond to. "I noticed you're into hiking - have you done any good trails recently?" works much better than "Hey, what's up?"
Keep it genuine. You don't need to be Shakespeare. Just be honest about why you're reaching out. If their smile caught your eye, say so. If you share a passion for the same thing, mention it.
Don't write an essay. Three to five sentences is the sweet spot. Long enough to show effort, short enough to be easy to read.
Skip the generic stuff. "Hey beautiful" and "What's up?" are going straight to the bottom of the pile. Put in some effort and it'll show.
The Difference This Makes
The feedback we hear most often from people on Connexa is that the messages they receive actually feel personal. People mention specific things from their profiles. They ask thoughtful questions. They write like real humans talking to real humans.
That's the whole point. When there's a small cost to reaching out, the quality goes up dramatically. And when the quality goes up, acceptance rates go up too. Everyone wins.
